Ukraine is the country with ancient history, complicated political life but with wonderful nature and huge economic potential. It is the second biggest country in Europe.
Fact #1: Ukrainian trembita is the longest musical instrument in the world. It was primarily used as a signaling device by mountain dwellers. It is 8 meters long and weights 1.5 kilos.
Fact #2: “Arsenalna” metro station in Kyiv is the deepest one in the world and it goes underground for 105 meters. The station was built in 1960 close to the Parliament building. According to some reports secret tunnels built for the political elite are hidden near this metro station.
Fact #3: One of the world's most famous Christmas songs is a cover version of "Shchedryk" folk song arranged by Mykola Leontovych, the Ukrainian composer and teacher. It is a soundtrack of “Home alone” popular movie. The world knows it as “Carol of the Bells”.
Fact #4: Ukrainian “Antonov Design Bureau” developed the aircraft with the largest carrying capacity in the world. It is AN -255 "Mriya". It was originally designed for the spacecraft transportation. Now "Mriya" performs commercial flights.
Fact #5: Ukrainian national anthem consists of only six lines: the four lines of verse and the two ones of chorus.
Fact #6: “Summertime” song by George Gershwin is the one of the most famous songs in the world. The author was inspired by "There is a dream walking by the windows" lullaby performed by the Ukrainian National Chorus in New York.
Fact#7: The world oldest map as well as the most ancient settlement of Homo Sapiens was found in Ukraine in the village of Rivne, Mezhiricha region. They are 14.5 - 15 thousand years old. The map was created on the mammoth bones; the settlement was built of the same material.
