New Fine Dining Spots in Kyiv: Late November 2018 Review

No cold and snow can prevent new restaurants and bars from opening in Kyiv. Since the beginning of November, the capital has gained at least 10 new spots to check out. Classic American cuisine restaurant, a new rooftop panoramic bar and pyrizhky bar are among them.

Senator

Senator restaurant in KyivSenator restaurant and bar located in the same-named business center reopened this autumn to invite all Kyiv fans of American cuisine. The menu steps away from the focus on burgers, introducing diverse dishes from various regions of the Americas.

Thus, there are sections of South America specials with ceviche, New York bestsellers with beef tenderloin steak, and popular Mexican picks like taco and guacamole. Besides, there's a wide variety of steaks including the classic T-bone and ribeye. The bar boasts a large whiskey collection from America, Canada, Scotland, Ireland, Japan, as well as India and Taiwan.

The classic American drink, punch, is available here in various flavors, each of them named after the Founding Fathers. On weekends, the restaurant hosts brunch for kids, as well as provides entertainment with animators and a candy bar. Adults might be interested in alcohol degustations that are also held here.

ЇZH

French fries and waffle sandwichЇZH, which is a wordplay on the Ukrainian 'eat', is the name of a new fast food spot opened near the Zoloti Vorota metro station. The menu is quite diverse, offering visitors waffle sandwiches, bowls, waffle pops, soups, bites, and French fries. You can order dips and supplements like nachos or Coleslaw as a side to any dish. Vegetarian options are marked on the menu.

So far, visitors pointed out the waffle sandwich with tofu, avocado, apple and hummus. As for the drinks, ЇZH offers alcohol-free drinks like tea, coffee and fuzz drinks, as well as a variety of alcoholic beverages to top the food: on tap and craft beer and cider, two cocktails, spirits, and white, red, rosé and sparkling wine. The menu is available in English. It's also worth noting that ЇZH is eco-friendly - all dishes except the wine cups are biodegradable.

Fish & Pussycat

Sushi rolls and soy sauceA new seafood restaurant popped up near Besarabsky Market in the center of Kyiv. Fish & Pussycat introduces Californian sushi in all their shapes and forms. To give an idea, the menu features nigiri with sea bass, tuna, salmon, crab, langoustine and high-quality Japanese beef Wagyu; rolls with salmon and tempura shrimps, and sashimi with yuzu-jalapeño sauce.

Guests can also try sushi bowls with scallops, spicy crabs and eel among others. More positions on the menu include seafood-based snacks and salads, soups, desserts and dishes made in Josper like baked eggplant grilled with spicy miso and bonito.

The restaurant has a separate breakfast section available from 9 to 12 A.M. on Mon-Fri and from 9 A.M. to 3 P.M. on Sat-Sun. Avocado toast, Ukrainian syrnyky and poke quinoa are among the available breakfast options. The drinks are represented by coffee, tea, lemonades, fizzy drinks and a variety of authentic Japanese beverages: Umeshu aperitifs, whiskey, sake and Japanese bottled beer. WhaiThai

Noodles and cafe with plants Blur Coffee located right near the Klovska metro station now has a new neighbor - WhaiThai that despite the name serves not only Thai food but various dishes from Pan-Asian cuisine. The main focus of the bistro is ramen, the classic Japanese noodle soup. It is available with four broth types: soy sauce shoyu, soy beans miso, tuna shavings and seaweed dashi, and curry-coconut.

The flavors include chicken satai, beef bbq, char siu pork and tofu shiitake. The ramen can be served with meat or made vegan upon request. Visitors can also choose the spiciness and size of the dish. Apart from ramen, the menu features Wok with chicken and tofu, three types bowls with meat, seafood and vegetables, and starters like edamame beans.

Pirogъ Bar

Old interior bar in KyivThe new Kyiv cuisine spot was opened in the downtown near Peizazhna Alley. Pirogъ Bar found its home in an early 20th-century building that hosted art elite, composers and actors. Founders of the dining spot drew the inspiration from the era, making its interior a time travel to 1900s Kyiv.

The old traditions are reflected in the menu as well: classic pastry, pyrizhky, are available here with eggs and onions, beef in wine, chicken, fish, pear and apple, mango and mint, as well as chocolate and poppy seeds. Authentic Kyiv dishes include classics like borshch, salo, chicken Kyiv and Kyiv cake.

To top off the dinner in an authentic way, Pirogъ Bar offers homemade digestifs like nastoyankas, for instance, Hrinovuha based on horseradish root and spices. Apart from the food, visitors will have a chance to enjoy retro music and regular movie showings - the owners announced short silent films of the 1910s.

Prosciutteria offers meat and cheese boards, meat sets with various types of raw meat cured delicacies, escargot and oysters. Prosecco is recommended here as a drink to top the oysters. Besides, there are 6 types of breakfast options. The menu is available in English.

Window 1

Bánh mì sandwichThose familiar with Food vs Marketing or Bánh mì vs Marketing might be interested in the new spot opened by the same owner, Zhenya Mykhailenko. Window 1 works as a street food window (hence the name) in the city center near the Olympiiska metro station. The window is opened every day except Sunday.

Bánh mì, the sandwich served here, is a Vietnamese snack that originated during the French colonial era and became popular street food in Saigon back in the 1950s. The puffy baguette sandwiches are available with three flavors: cold cuts, chicken, and eggs & cheese.

Holy Burger

Burger with beef and tomatoesThe new burger spot opened on the corner of Shota Rustaveli and Rohnidynska streets near Palats Sportu. As the name suggests, the menu here is focused on burgers. In total, the restaurant offers 8 types of burgers with various flavors, for instance, French Burger with a brioche bun, beef and foie gras cutlet, camembert cheese and onion confiture. All burgers are served with Coleslaw salad and French fries.

The menu also features entrées like camembert fries with berry confiture, salads, soups and main dishes - steaks, beef ribs, as well as chicken, duck and salmon prepared in various ways. The dessert section includes, among others, the classic Australian Pavlova, Breton Pie with cherry confiture and Tarte Tatin. The breakfast section is available as well and includes both burgers and international picks like poached eggs with guacamole, shakshouka and syrnyky. The menu is available in English.

11 Mirrors Rooftop Restaurant & Bar

11 Mirrors Rooftop restaurant in KyivA new panoramic restaurant in Kyiv opened this November in the 11 Mirrors hotel. Located in the city center right near Kyiv Opera House, the new rooftop restaurant and bar provides a panorama of the historical part of the city. The restaurant offers dishes from European and Ukrainian cuisines with a touch of Pan-Asian fusion.

Thus, the menu has iconic Kyiv specials like Kyiv cake and borsch. The bar list was created in partnership with the World Class — a global initiative by a luxury collection of spirits. The bar offers 11 signature cocktails created by a Ukrainian team in collaboration with Kevin Patnode from the World Class Club.

Drunken Monkey Bar

Drunken Monkey craft beerDrunken Monkey Bar was opened at the beginning of autumn; now itgains more and more attention as winter is around the corner. Located in Podil historical area, the bar specializes at craft beer. Currently, there are 20 types available on tap - American Pale Ale, American Stout, Baltic Porter and Czech Pilsner are among the most popular picks. Cider is represented with Sidra Avalon - a pale yellow Spanish cider.

The menu includes international dishes from Ukrainian borsch and Thai chicken wings to British smoked mackerel. Business lunches are served here on Mon-Fri from 1 to 4 P.M. On weekends, Drunken Monkey Bar hosts live music gigs. The beer list is available in English.
