On June 5, 2023, in one of the auditoriums of the main building of the University of Zurich, a lecture-discussion on the timely topic of "Culture and History as Means of Managing the Present" will be held. Renowned Ukrainian writers Yuri Andrukhovych, Halyna Petrosanyak, and Professor Silvia Sass from the University of Zurich's Department of Slavic Literatures will attend the event.
Collective cultural and historical memory includes:
- Objective facts.
- Scientific knowledge about the past.
- Societal perspectives on current events.
The dissemination of prioritized narratives is often achieved through the involvement of "invisible" socio-cultural instruments, leading to the construction of collective perceptions of events.
In Russia's war against Ukraine, history has suffered massive distortion. Ukrainian artists were forced to combat Russia's monopolization of culture for decades.
In our lecture-discussion, we aim to provide examples of how such "silent" techniques manipulate societal consciousness concerning the war in Ukraine. We also encourage our guests to have a discerning perception of the information they receive from various sources in their everyday lives.
Additionally, we want to draw the attention of the Swiss audience to the gems of contemporary Ukrainian literature and inspire the public to engage in an enthusiastic exchange of ideas.
The lecture-discussion will take place in the splendid auditorium of the main building of the University of Zurich on June 5, 2023, at 18:00, in German and Ukrainian languages. Don't miss out! An engaging topic, excellent speakers, and a fantastic location await you!
