As the war in Ukraine has been raging for almost a year, Ukrainian authorities were forced to take measures to preserve the national cultural heritage. The implementation of these measures, in addition to the emblematic photographs of monuments covered with sandbags, also affects museums, which were forced to evacuate their treasures and place them in safe locations. Such as the National Museum of Arts Bohdan and Varvara Khanenko in Kiev.

The exhibition presents photographs of the most important empty galleries of Ukraine, which illustrate the risk of destruction of Ukrainian cultural heritage.

Hosted by the Maison de l'histoire of the Geneva University in partnership with the International Council of Museums (ICOM)-Switzerland and the Swiss National Museum, the exhibition was produced in collaboration with TU Dortmund University, the National Museum of Arts Bohdan and Varvara Khanenko of kyiv, the Ukraine Art Aid Center, and the Caspar-David-Friedrich Institute of the University of Greifswald.
