Kyiv Weekend Events: June 9-10

Don’t let the chilly weather fool you — summer is already here. It’s felt especially strong thanks to the bright festivals like Holi, where people can let their hair down and embrace all the colors of nature. Surely, Indian culture is not the only one to explore this weekend in Kyiv — Francophonie day and paintings by Manet will give an insight into the French world.

Holi Festival

The traditional Indian festival has long gone beyond the country’s borders and is celebrated in Ukraine as well. In summer 2018, the big cultural festival will take place on the territory of the large Kyiv sports arena. Holi will feature a traditional battle of colors set to the lively music. Guests of the festival will have a chance to participate in different workshops, get a Mehendi design and enjoy dishes from Indian and Ukrainian cuisine. The ticket price starts at UAH 100.

Classical Music Under the Starry Sky

Kyiv Planetarium has become an often host for concerts in the recent years and after its renovation, it shines brightly as never before. The newly equipped halls welcome those who enjoy the simple things: good music and starry sky. Violin, cello, alto and double bass by Bach, Vivaldi and many others will create a unique vibe along with the star night projections on the huge dome of the Planetarium.

Open-air Movie Showing

Solomianka Landscape Park isn't the most visited tourist spot but locals from the neighboring districts take care of it with pride for sure. One of the proofs is a ‘Cinema Park’ project that welcomes Kyiv dwellers to enjoy open-air free movie showings. The initiative starts again this weekend with Thor, one of the first high-rank movies of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The visitors are advised to bring snacks, tea and blankets to keep warm during the late evening.

Knight Tournament on Spivoche Pole

A lucky chance to travel to the past without time machine is brought by local re-enactors and history enthusiasts. This Saturday, visitors of the Perchersk Botanical Garden will witness knight fights and great battles, as well as dance group performances. The festival participants will teach different dance moves, including basics of the traditional Ukrainian martial art combat Hopak. Besides, Spivoche Pole will host a fair with various souvenirs and snacks to enjoy in between the battles. The entrance fee is UAH 50 for adults and UAH 25 for children.

Fun Family Fest in Sky Family Park

Located in SkyMall shopping center, Sky Family Park is a kid-friendly space that became a host of the 11th Fun Family Fest. Entertainment for the day is promised to include a magician show, paper tricks and an access to various rides. The beach complex is equipped with street food stalls and a stage where DJs provide the soundtrack of the event. Entrance is UAH 75.

The Francophonie Day on Kostolna Street

The traditional summer event gathers all lovers of French culture on a large festival in Kyiv downtown. This year, visitors will be entertained by a non-stop flow of Ukrainian bands, Ukrainian Shadow Theater and, of course, French illusionists and mimes. Culinary workshops, huge food court, wine and cheese degustations are a mere drop in the ocean of the interesting events that will take place this weekend. The entrance is free.
When: June 10, 10 A.M. - 10 P.M.

Manet: Portraying Life

Thanks to the Exhibition on Screen initiative, cinemagoers around the world can enjoy the gems of art from Picasso and Degas to Van Gogh and Rembrandt without flying over to the museums. The futuristic concept creates a feeling of visiting the Royal Academy of Arts exhibition, dedicated to the life and works of Édouard Manet. Moreover, the lucky viewers will witness BTS moments shot during the exhibition preparation on the large screen. The ticket price is UAH 150.
