American poet and philosopher Henry David Thoreau once said that the fire is the main comfort of the camp, whether in summer or winter ... it is as well for cheerfulness as for warmth and dryness. However, campfires are also the source of as serious danger. To avoid fires, Kyiv City Department for Parks and Forests launched an on-line interactive map of campfires permitted location.

Truth be told, Ukrainians love spending weekends outdoors making campfires and preparing food. With the arrival of spring and summer just around the corner many people will opt for forests and parks around Kyiv to spend their days off busking in the sun and enjoying freshly roasted meats (known as «shashlyk») and vegetables in a good company of family and friends.
Kyiv City authorities inform that campfires may not be lit at any local parks and forests, except those listed on the map. And even though campfires are still allowed at the locations provided in this map, tourists must always remember that the campfires should never be left unattended, and they should be cold to the touch before leaving the area.
