“The Nutcracker” ballet by Piotr Tchaikovsky is a famous New Year fairy tale, an important part of winter holidays celebration in Europe, played in all best theatres. Setting of “The Nutcracker” by Classical Grand Ballet is not only an exciting New Year story, but also a mix of amazing beauty and perfect dancing skills of the best ballet schools representatives. This January, “The Nutcracker” on the stage of October Palace in Kyiv will be performed not only by Ukrainian ballet stars, but also by such well-known world ballet soloists as V. Zhurov, D. Vasiliev, E. Svetlitsa, M. Suzuki, V. Velasquez.

New Year Evening of Classical Music in Kyiv

In the middle of January, the soloists of National Organ and Chamber Music Hall of Ukraine invite everyone to listen to the most eminent melodies by classic composers. The program of the concert includes compositions written by romantic Schubert, opera virtuoso Rossini, French operetta genius Offenbach and world-famous master Tchaikovsky. The guests will also listen to the parts of Vivaldi’s “The Four Seasons” violin concert and the whole cycle of “The Four Seasons” of Astor Piazzolla.

“Carmen” is a ballet based on the similarly named novel of Prosper Mérimée, first played in 1845 under the name “Carmen and toreador” in the setting of ballet-master Marius Petipa in Madrid. But when Georges Bizet composed his original music to “Carmen” in 1875, it instantly became an integral part of the play, and all further “Carmen” performances were presented to the audience with Bizet`s music. The ballet is based on the love story of freedom-loving, passionate and reckless gipsy Carmen and young soldier Jose, who has become a defector and a smuggler for the sake of his beloved woman.

“Giselle” is a ballet in two acts written by composer Adolphe Adam with libretto of Jules-Henri Vernoy de Saint-Georges and Théophile Gautier based on the legend retold by Heinrich Heine. This masterpiece is a symbol of romantic ballet of XIX century, which still wins hearts of thousands viewers. Young Giselle gets to know that her beloved one has betrayed her; she loses her mind and dies. After that, she becomes one of Wilis – the brides that have died before their weddings. In the middle of the night, Wilis come into the world of humans and kill every man that goes by, making him dance until death.

Mozart Symphony Gala Concert in Lviv

1788 was a successful year for the great maestro Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Three eminent symphonies – 39, 40 and 41 “Jupiter” – were born in this year and became the crowning achievement of the composer.
