International Women’s Day is a worldwide event that celebrates women’s achievements – from the political to the social – while calling for gender equality. It has been observed since the early 1900s and is now recognized each year on March 8. It is not affiliated with any one group, but brings together governments, women's organizations, corporations and charities.
In recent years 8th of March has received a lot of negative publicity since some consider this holiday to be some sort of leftover from the Soviet era past. This idea is especially popular in the Western Ukraine, where many citizens don’t celebrate this holiday at all.

However 8th of March has somewhat grow on almost all of generations of Ukrainians so many of them came up with an interesting rebranding idea of celebrating the coming of spring, awakening from winter hibernation and expressing gratitude to female part of the country’s population rather than honoring some long forgotten female proletarian movement.
The most coming thing to do on the 8th of March in Kyiv is to surprise all your female family members, friends, girlfriends, finances etc with flowers. To bring a special wow effect to the occasion - try to order a veggie or fruit bouquet. These have recently became very popular alternative to a conventional hip of flowers.
