Museum of Arts named after Bogdan and Varvara Khanenko retains the most significant and systematic collection of classic foreign art in Ukraine, which today consists of more than 20,000 works. The private collection of the prominent Ukrainian philanthropists Bohdan and Varvara Khanenko became the basis for establishing the Museum of Western and Eastern Art in Kiev according to their will.

The museum can boast with such masterpieces as ‘Portrait of Infanta Margarita’ by Diego Velazquez, ‘Portrait of a Patrician’ by Gentile Bellini, ‘Madonna and Child’ by Giovanni Bellini and others. The legendary Goya’s graphic series – ‘Disasters of War’ and ‘Caprichos’ – also form a part of the collection. Museum is proud of being home for the works of Zurbaran, Magnasco, Guardi, Rubens, Pieter Brueghel the Younger, Jordaens, Teniers, Hals, Boucher and many others.
The department of Eastern Art, which is considered to be the largest in Ukraine, contains valuable collections of Egyptian rarities, Chinese XV-XX centuries paintings, as well as Japanese and Indian art. A separate room is dedicated to a unique capella with Byzantine icons from VI-VII centuries. The four most ancient Christian icons that were preserved in Eastern Europe are located here.
