Ukrainian varenyky

Lviv culinary scene has a new addition: Gwara Restauracja that focuses on regional classics like the famous Lviv syrnyky and non-touristy gems. Here, dishes have history and introduce visitors to the city's culinary culture.

Gwara Restauracja is located in the picturesque Lviv Old Town on 32, Brativ Rohatyntsiv Street. The restaurant neighbors the Jewish Quarter and its famous Under the Golden Rose Kneipp. It's also located not far from the iconic House of Legends.
Gwara restaurant in LvivWhile the restaurant can easily be spotted by green doors and windows, the interior is mostly monochrome. Lofty bare brick walls and columns are contrasted by wooden furniture, leather couches and an abundance of candles. The menu specializes at Lviv cuisine in all its shapes and forms from main courses and soups to hearty desserts.
FlaczkiGwara Restauracja filled the menu not with only centuries-old classics but also "newer" recipes and iconic dishes from the late 20th century, for instance Lviv grilled chicken. One of the highlights of the menu is "Flaczki à la Tepfer" - chef's spin on a traditional Lviv meat stew. The name originates from the famous Lviv restaurant 'Under Three Crowns' owned by Naftule Tepfer that, as the legend says, has used to serve the best flaczki in the whole city.
Lviv BorshtTraditional Ukrainian borsht is cooked from beets kvass with beans, yarrow, garlic, green, celery and fragrant oil. The classic Lviv dessert, syrnyky, didn't escape the chef's attention as well. In Gwara Restauracja it is served with chocolate sauce, sweet orange sauce and cognac raisins.
Nalysnyky and nalyvkaBesides, the restaurant aims to introduce the guests to the best Lviv breakfasts. For starters, Gwara Restauracja chose a plate of nalysnyky, Ukrainian crêpes with cottage cheese. Visitors also have a chance to try the iconic Ukrainian digestifs. The restaurant offers handmade nalyvkas and nastoyankas with honey, raspberry, currant and horseradish. They are also sold in bottles making it a memorable souvenir from Lviv.
