Kyiv Metro system has 3 operating lines, the total length of which is 67.6 km. There are 52 stations with three interchange nodes located in a triangle of the historical center of Kyiv. At all stations of the Kyiv Metro there is a coverage of cellular operators “Vodafone”, “Kyivstar”, “lifecell”.Kyiv metro working hours: the subway is open at 6 a.m. and closes at 12 p.m. The transportation cost is UAH 8 per one ride. 
Arsenalna station is the deepest in the world and is located at a depth of 105.5 meters. 5 Kyiv metro stations are recognized as architectural monuments.
Kyiv Metro History
On July 9, 1936, the Presidium of Kyiv City Council reviewed “Kyiv Metro Project” work of Mr. Papazov, the graduate of Moscow Institute of Transport Engineers. It was the start of Kyiv subway history.
In 1938 preliminary work began, but it stopped with the outbreak of World War II. After the war, a large-scale reconstruction of the city was started, as well as the construction of Kyiv metro. The real work on the subway construction began in 1949.

Today, Kyiv Metro has three operating lines with 52 stations, the operational length of the tracks is 67.6 km. There are three underground transfer hubs in the city center. The metro has 127 escalators, which are located at 26 stations, including 122 existing escalators at 25 stations.

Kyiv Metro is no exception among the systems of the Soviet Union metro, known for their bright and colorful decoration. The stations of the first period were originally designed and decorated in the style of post-war Soviet architecture, mixed with traditional Ukrainian motifs.
The stations of the second period had no longer such a colorful design, but rigorous and functional one. The stations built during that period were very simple.
In mid-1970s that decorative architecture of Kyiv metro began to revive. Today, the mural at Osokorki Station with 8 different episodes has become a bright landmark of the Kyiv metro. The fresco seeks to unite the East and West of Ukraine. Eight artists from different countries worked on the mural for 4 months.
In 2012, Zoloti Vorota (Golden Gate) station was included in the list of the 22 most beautiful metro stations in Europe according to the British Daily Telegraph.
According to the draft plan for the development of Kyiv until 2025, developed in 2011 by Kyiv Institute of the General Plan of the city, it is planned to extend the construction of a new metro line from the Troyeschina massif to Kyiv airport, Syretsko-Pechersk line to extend to the Vinogradar array. The construction of transfer hubs near the stations of the city electric train is also provided.
Kyiv Metro lives in the rhythm of the city developing and growing, becoming modern and convenient in accordance with the demands of the present time and looking into the future.
