Instant Time Exhibition in Mystetskyi Arsenal

Neon art on Instant Time exhibition in Kyiv

The famous Kyiv art venue opened a grand exhibition showing the works of the winners of the art project ideas contest held by Mystetskyi Arsenal in 2017. The expo tells about the complex period of Ukrainian history — the 1990s. Different generations of artists reflect on the past and the present making a full picture of what it was like to live in Ukraine after the USSR collapse.

Instant Time grasps 9 different cities and regions of Ukraine. Artists explore the reality, dreams, fears and mundane life of those who lived in the 1990s to create a full socio-political picture. The exposition is filled with metaphors starting with its name — Instant Time symbolizes the escalation during the first years of Ukrainian independence. The information could finally spread freely and it had no intentions to stop. Everyone believed anything and just as quickly ditched the rumors to grab onto the next one.

Instant Time exhibition gives an opportunity to witness the miners’ fight for their rights, blossoming of art, sexuality and freedom in Kyiv, Lviv, Kharkiv, Donetsk, Dnipro, Kherson, Odesa, Ivano-Frankivsk and Crimea. According to the curators of the exhibition Viktoriia Bavykina and Asia Tsisar, the key question is not to analyze what the 90s have been for Ukraine but what part of 90s is left in the souls and minds of modern Ukrainians.
