Francophonie is an international organization of cooperation of the French-speaking countries in the world. Embassies of Belgium, Bulgaria, Moldova, France, Croatia, Vietnam, Greece, Estonia, Egypt, Canada, Cyprus, Lebanon, Morocco, and Switzerland will take part in the traditional festival Francophonie en Ukraine 2019. Although most of the events will take place in Kyiv, other cities of the country will also join the festival.
"French is a useful language" – this is the main theme of the festival in 2019. There are several events from 16 to 24 of March dedicated to the French language. In particular, the Ukrainians will get a chance to write a dictation, which will be read by the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Morocco in Ukraine and the first counselors of the embassies of Greece and Belgium. Also, there is a video contest for participants 12-25 years old with the opportunity to go to France or receive valuable prizes.
For the first time, auditions will be held for participants in the French speaking singing contest. Students of 6-17 years old can try their hand at it. After the selection by video recordings, the expert jury will listen to the participants. The winners will be able to perform during the gala concert of the Anne de Kiev Fest festival in May and during the “Francophonie Festival” on Kostelna Street in June.
The festival also provides an opportunity to watch some of the best films of the Francophonie countries within the framework of the “Cinema Francophonie”. Six embassies will present seven movies. Films will be devoted to various professions. In "Kyivska Rus" cinema you can see films presented by Cyprus, Canada, France, Belgium (free of charge), Greece (registration via e-mail of the Embassy) and Switzerland (tickets at the box office). The festival of French cinema will be held in Kharkiv as well.
In addition, on March 22, a meeting will be held at the French Institute with Lebanese writer Ahmed Jomaa.
Theater plays an important role in the Days of Francophonie en Ukraine, in particular, two public performances will take place. The first is "Be my Marguerite!", it is based on the works of Marguerite Duras. This is a modern performance with techno music.
Another performance “The Last Day of the Sentenced Person”. It is an adaptation in French of the novel by Victor Hugo.
