New Year 2019 Celebrations in Ukraine

2019 is just around the corner – so all the cities and towns of Ukraine are already preparing for a big celebration. Soon, all the main squares and streets will bloom with colorful Christmas trees, garlands and other festive decorations, while thousands of merry people will have fun at festive fairs and other interesting thematic events. Let`s check out how the key Ukrainian cities will celebrate winter holidays.

Kyiv

New Year 2019 Podil Kyiv
This year, the winter holidays in Kyiv will keep to the topic of “Polar lights”. The festive celebrations in the Ukrainian capital will be traditionally held on two central squares: Sofiyska and Kontraktova. The holiday-related events at these locations will take place from December 15, 2018 till January 13, 2019. The main 25-meter high Christmas tree of the country will start to shine on Sofiyska square on December 19. A big screen will be installed near the Christmas tree so that everyone is able to say greetings to friends and family. Kids will have fun riding “Polar express” train around the monument to Bohdan Khmelnytsky. A beautiful light installation “Magic tunnel” will join Sofiyska and Volodymyrska squares. On Sofiyska square, guests will find festive fair with many souvenirs, food and warm drinks, while Mykahilivska square nearby will delight with numerous attractions, photo areas and so on. On December 31, a big concert and New Year party will take place on Sofiyska square.
As for Kontraktova square in Podil, it will also offer numerous entertainment options. The Christmas tree will be decorated in the style of the famous Ukrainian painter Maria Prymachenko. The list of activities will include slides, ferris wheel, festive fair, St. Nicholas residence. Sagaydachnogo street will be decorated with colorful illumination and shining figures of fantastic animals.

Lviv


The festive program in Lviv started on December 7 when the traditional Christmas fair was opened on Rynok square. The fair offers guests lovely souvenirs, tasty food and mulled wine. Those who love ice skating are welcome to have much fun on a large ice rink that is also installed on Rynok square. The main Christmas tree of Lviv will be opened on Rynok square on December 18. On December 25, on the day of Catholic Christmas, a special celebration will be held in the yard of Lviv Town Hall. On the evening of December 31, Lviv Opera House will turn into a unique art object with 3D mapping show accompanied by “Lirwak” band performance. This year, the square in front of Dovzhenko center in Sykhiv district will also become a festive location with Christmas fairs and Christmas tree. On January 7, 2019, Lviv dwellers and guests are welcome to hear the beautiful voice of Ruslana who will sing on the square in front of Opera House. On January 12-13, ice sculptures contest will be held near Opera. In general, winter holidays celebrations in Lviv will last almost till the end of January.

The main Christmas tree in Odesa will be opened on Dumska square on December 19 – on St. Nicholas`s Day. The traditional “Magic animals town” will be located on Dumska square as well. This year, the guests of “Magic town” will see nice pigs – the symbol of 2019. The Christmas tree of Primorsky districts, that is already being installed on the famous Deribasivska street, will consist of 300 pines. Its height will reach 80 meters. The tree, as well as the main streets of Odesa, will be decorated by colorful garlands. The dwellers and guests of the city will have a chance to visit Christmas fair on Primorsky boulevard daily until January 13. On December 31, a big New Year concert featuring the well-known Ukrainian singer Oleg Vinnyk will take place on Dumska square. At the midnight, guests of the celebration will enjoy festive fireworks.

The first Christmas tree in Kharkiv will start to shine in Gorky park on December 23, while the main Christmas tree of the city will be opened on Svobody square on December 26. On New Year night, everyone is welcome to take part in festive activities that will be held both on Svobody square and in Gorky park. Besides, different entertaining events for both children and grown-ups will take place in Gorky park starting from December 19. From December 27 till January 5, holiday performances for schoolchildren will be shown in Palace of Sports.

On December 19, dwellers and guests of Dnipro are invited to celebrate St. Nicholas Day in “Zeleniy Gai” park. On December 21, the main Christmas tree of the city will be opened in Globa park. From December 25 till January 7, “Easy Day” festive fair will take place in Bartolomeo Best River Resort on 9b, Pobedy embankment. Here guests will enjoy delicious food, drinks, souvenirs, DJ sets, performances, contests and photo zones. On January 6, concert program “New Year Positive 2019” will take place near “Sputnik” concert hall on 18, Titova street. On the same day at 6 PM, a big Christmas concert featuring Le Grand Orchestra and Oleg Skrypka will be held on Heroyiv Maidana square.
