The new festival is aimed at popularizing Podil and its contemporary art scene via exhibitions, concerts, movie showings, raves and walking tours showing off the iconic spots of the neighborhood. We selected the highlights of the 10-day program:
August 3
Linocut Exhibition “Where the Monsters Live” by Lena Wral
The festival will start with the opening of the linocut exhibition by Lena Wral. The intricate works of art depict the dreams and ghosts of the imaginary world. DJ Mishukov and Albert Tsukrenko will spice up the night with live music.

Wild Stories Exhibition
The idea behind the exhibition is that we have our demons, which are very eager to get out and tear the usual civilized mask. That’s when the wild stories are born. Contemporary Ukrainian artists depict each of them in various art works.

Snare Drum Performance from Ryosuke Kiyasu
The art of Japanese drummers is famous far beyond the country’s borders. Ryosuke Kiyasu will perform a solo on snare drum, accompanied by punk musician Bizzy Killer Gedbenz and noise artists from Ukraine.

Igor Agrich Trio: Journey to the Great American Songbook
The young jazz pianist Igor Agrich along with his trio of double bass and drums will perform famous songs from films and musicals that have become legendary jazz pieces.

Zhovten cinema traditionally supplies English-speaking audience in Kyiv with the movie premiers: this time, a sci-fi movie The Darkest Minds with Amanda Stenberg and the well-known franchise Mission: Impossible – Fallout.

DJ Mishukov and Albert Tsukrenko will provide the lively vibe on the first party of the Decade of Art festival. The entrance is free.

Excursion on Podil
Kyiv guide Vladyslava Osmak will show visitors around Kontraktova Ploshcha and the Old Podil in the light of literature.

WRCKG (Netherlands): Melodic Hardcore
The heavy melodic band from Utrecht will perform tracks from their self-titled EP and a debut album Lost in Confusion.

Urbanina: Agents of Change Party
The non-profit organization Agents of Change (Агенти Змін) commonly known for their urban city projects oorganizes Urbanina party with lively beats, cocktails and true Kyiv vibe near the Dnipro river.

The movie showing of the fresh movie from the Mission: Impossible – Fallout franchise with Tom Cruise.

Independence Film Night. Shorts
American Independence Film Festival along with Art Podil organizes a series of movie showings. The first one will feature short movies “The Last Barn Dance”, “Forever, Chinatown”, “I am Yup’Ik” and “Joe’s Violin”. The entrance is free.

The Edge: Psychedelic/garage Session
The young Kyiv psychedelic band The Edge has already performed in Germany and recorded tracks with The Brian Jonestown Massacre band from the US. The entrance is free.

Linocut Workshop
Linocut is an intricate but accessible art — the image is cut out on linoleum and stamped on a sheet of paper to make a print. Visitors of the workshop will have a chance to create their unique stamps and make works of art.

Independence Film Night. Class Divide
The documental movie captures the life of kids from the same neighborhood in Chelsea but different backgrounds as they try to make sense where they fit in the rapidly-changing world.

Independence Film Night. I’ll Push You
The documentary synopsis “A Camino journey of 500 miles, two best friends, and one wheelchair” really says it all about the plot. Beautiful views of El Camino de Santiago add to the kind and hopeful story.

Linoleum. Animation Night
The International Animation Fest Linoleum takes place in Kyiv this August. The aim of the festival is to show that animation is not only for kids but is also a form of contemporary art that rises pressing issues. This showing will feature the experimental program. The entrance is free.

Sergiy Yakutovych: Idols
The famous Ukrainian graphic and artist Sergiy Yakutovych created various illustrations for books throughout his lifetime. Each of the illustrations revolves around the theme of heroism.

This showing of the Linoleum Animation Night will feature the contest program of the festival works. The entrance is free.

Charity Concert from the Kyiv Orchestra
The concert is a part of Na Shapku initiative that raises money for the charity 9/11 that helps children in need. The Kyiv Orchestra will perform the classical “The Four Seasons” by Vivaldi.

Uvula: Ukrainian Dream-pop
The rising stars of 2018, Ukrainian band Uvula is known among the fans of the genre for their deep lyrics and dynamic rhythms.

Independence Film Night. High-School 911
The movie documents the life of the only ambulance service in Darien, Connecticut that is surprisingly run by the teenagers.

Pinhole Trolleybus Exhibition
The exhibition tells an unusual story of the trolleybus that works as a camera. The results of such ‘cooperation’ and principle of work will be explained by the artists in Pavlovka Art Gallery.

Voodoo Rave at DOM
Kyiv is known for its diverse rave scene and Voodoo rave at Dom will add light downtempo and Oriental 110-120 beats per second to the hot summer night.

Movie Showing in English. The Meg
The Meg explores the story of scientists trapped in the Mariana Trench after the attack of an unknown creature. Diving expert played by Jason Statham risks his life to save the team and find out the nature of the beast.

Equality Festival. Short Movies
Insight LGBTQ NGO and Art Podil present a collection of short movies that explore sexuality, gender and equal rights. The schedule will include movies from 2016-17 Equality Festivals.

Closing Concert on Poshtova Square
The grand concert will feature the world famous jazz singer Nazgul Shukaeva, a well-known Kyiv pianist, founder Jazz Koktebel festiva Volodymyr Solyanik, the Kyiv band Tea with Meat, and the young Ukrainian band Atomic Simao that performs instrumental psychedelic jazz.
