Colors: nudes, red pear, silver
This fall and winter promise to be everything but bleak. While haute couture in general stays away from the abundance of fluorescent neon, rich and deep colors will certainly appear among the style trends this season. Dior Couture Fall 2018 is full of nudes of every imaginable shade from the beloved rose and blush to navy blue. The colors don’t look too bland thanks to the complicated texture of satin and silk. Another way of making an accentuated look is choosing items with micro-trends like lace details or flare.
One more color of F/W 18/19 is PANTONE 19-1536 TCX, called Red Pear. The deep shade is suitable for a mono-look like pants or skirt suits, or accent details like scarfs, belts and collars. Alexander McQueen, Acne Studios, Hermes, Gucci — almost every major fashion home incorporates Red Pear in their collections.
Shiny, futuristic silver is a nod to Sci-Fi and the 1980s that are still quite prominent on the catwalk. The inspiration can be found in Balmain and Alberta Ferretti.
Layering
Luckily for those who live through the harsh Ukrainian winters, layering is an ongoing current fashion trend that feels alive and well this season. The last year’s blanket coats are still just as fashionable and serve to keep you warm in the coldest days. F/W 18/19 adds even more options of layering outerwear — capes, short puffer jackets and sheepskin bombers. Valentino, Chloe, Balenciaga and 3.1 Phillip Sim catwalks show the almost careless look that can come in handy when you’re in haste — and still, want to look trendy. To look more kept, you can follow the simple rules: match structured outwear with puffers, and mix materials carefully — leather is your friend as it can match various materials from denim to fleece.
Oversized everything
A continuation of the previous trend, oversized clothes appear in numerous variations in Fall/Winter 18-19 collections. The items range from the familiar oversized puffer coats and parkas to easy fit nightshirts and knitted dresses. You can refer to John Galliano, Stella McCartney, Calvin Klein for inspiration. To avoid looking bulky, put accents in the look — for instance, easy fit clothes can be paired with wide belts and knitted dresses can have wide collars and prominent logos (a nod to the kitschy 1990s fashion). Choose rough, textured shoes to make the look complete.

Sequins
Sequins once again make a comeback on catwalks this season. From Chanel and D&G to Paco Rabanne and Balmain, the décor is revealed in all imaginable combinations. The epitome of the latest trend is an ombre pink-and-white two-piece suit by Balmain paired with a sequins shirt. The combination of the small and large sequins creates a mermaid-like look.
If you’re not the one for such amount of glitter, other ways to slip in the trend are sequins sewed on jeans, asymmetrical skirts, chiffon dresses and even tights. As always, the high shine is more suitable for cocktail parties, but a total black look with a sequins hoodie is a nice way to brighten up a grey autumn morning.
Faux fur & sheepskin
Prestigious fashion houses one by one abandon real fur and leather in favor of faux fur. After all, in 2018 animal cruelty is a pressing issue that the haute couture world is faced with as well. Instead of the real fur jackets and coats, designers choose to vary the styles of faux fur — from the almost natural-looking trim on skirts and dresses to the deliberately kitschy bright faux fur coats.
Sheepskin makes an entrance in F/W 18/19 as well — Stella McCartney, Louis Vuitton and Chloe present different models from oversized bomber jackets to the long tailored coats. The outerwear can be matched with one more of the latest trends: the dark color pattern of the 70s like beige, ochre, orange and brown.
Animalistic prints
Animalistic prints make a loud appearance this season as if to oppose the real fur and animal products. This is also a reemerging trend from the 1990s, so it might be the high time to look through the vintage and untouched part of the wardrobe. Zebra, snakeskin, tiger and, of course, leopard are brought back not only by haute couture but IT girls like the Hadid sisters.
F/W 18/19 collections give a choice between the bright and catchy patterns and the classic, slightly less catchy items of natural colors. The boldest decision is a total animalistic look. Make sure to wear neutral shoes and accessories.

Two-piece pantsuits & blazer dresses
The shout out to the 1980s, pantsuits and blazer dresses are definitely a power statement even 30 years later. Tom Ford, Balmain, Carolina Herrera, Alexander McQueen and other fashion brands have created various models for almost every occasion. The red and sleek suit will be a go for cocktail parties, while the slightly oversized total-black is suitable for everyday wear.
The classic two-row button blazer dresses are an alternative for the warmer days. They come in various color, but the basic palette – black, white, beige – stays the most popular. The new shtick of F/W 18/19 is cape blazers paired with long gloves.
Flared pants + turtleneck sweater
While the 80s and 90s certainly are the major trendsetters in the latest seasons, the 1970s clothing trends are quickly catching up. The classical duo of flared pants and a turtleneck sweater makes a comeback with Diane von Furstenberg and Juicy Couture. Finally offering an alternative to the ever-present mom jeans, flared jeans can also look well in a total-denim look — look for comfy jumpsuits and non-oversized jackets to make a statement detail. The French chic is also an inspiration to draw from — the classical marinière, flares and a simple, slightly oversized but structured black jacket gives the sleekness suitable for nights out and the office.
