The array of concerts and ballets will warm up dwellers of Kyiv this February.

Kyiv Modern Ballet. Bolero. Rain


The one-act ballet performances that will take place on Kyiv Opera and Ballet Theatre for Youth are the result of grueling work by Kyiv Modern Ballet director Radu Poklitaru and his ballet company. Together they successfully performed in Spain, France, the Netherlands, South Korea, China and many other countries.

This time, the audience will witness the iconic Boléro by Maurice Ravel wrapped in the language of dance. The second ballet on the program is called Rain, a creative philosophical symbiosis of ethnic music and pieces by Johann Christian Bach.

Radio & Juliet and Quatro


The famous ballet 'Radio & Juliet' directed by Romanian choreographer Edward Clug is back on the Ukrainian stage. The retelling of the classic story by William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet is set to modern music, namely Radiohead's famous hits from the OK Computer, Kid A and Amnesiac albums. The performance will be graced by the dancers from the iconic The Great Gatsby Ballet. Moreover, Denys Matvienko, who plays the main part, is a four-time award winner in numerous international ballet contests.

Masterpieces of Modern Choreography


This winter, dwellers of Kyiv will have a chance to see three masterpiece ballets by the famous Czech choreographer Jiří Kylián. The former dancer boasts various awards like prestigious Benois de la Danse and Laurence Olivier Award. This time in Kyiv, Kylián will present three ballets that he is best known for: Sechs Tänze to the music by Mozart, Petite Mort to the music by Mozart and Falling Angels to the music by Steve Reich. The final ballet of the program, Petite Ceremonie, is choreographed by Medhi Walerski to the complication of music by Mozart, Bellini, Rodgers and Hart as well as Vivaldi.

World Classics About Love


Saint Valentine's Day didn't escape the attention of Svitloconcert. The team focused on the music that great composers dedicated to love and their loved ones. Visitors will have a chance to listen to the most romantic works by Mozart, Schubert, Debussy, Gershwin, Grieg, Elgar, Dvořák, Massenet, Puccini, Gluck, Brahms and other great composers.

The melodies will be performed by the Kyiv Virtuosi Orchestra - Nominees of the Classical Music Awards 2018 Award for the best CD of the year. It is the first independent orchestra of Ukraine made up by students of the legendary Bogodar Kotorovich.

Slipota

SlipotaThis winter Misanthrope Theater and Port creative hub present a joint ‘Slipota’ (blindness) project, which explores a new genre for Ukraine - site-specific. Dwellers of Kyiv will have a chance to attend a play based on the Nobel nominee’s novel, performed in complete darkness. No light, no mobile devices — only the story on the stage. Viewers will have an opportunity to tear the boundaries of the play, based on the novel of José Saramago, and project the story right in their imagination.

Goliath

Goliath theatreIn December 2018, the independent theater "Misanthrope" together with TELEPORT360 premiered the "Goliath" - the first play in Ukraine staged on the basis of a comic book, a graphic novel by the world-famous illustrator Tom Gauld. Instead of a stage, the action will take place in a real pool right in front of the audience.

The content of the story will be told through special technologies - the projection of the text on the water will become a nod to a comics book, where all thoughts and speech of the characters appear in bubbles. All spectators will receive raincoats at the entrance to be protected from splashes.

Life in the Rhythm of Tango: Piazzolla


Life in the Rhythm of Tango is dedicated to the life and work of the outstanding Argentine composer Astor Piazzolla, the founder of a new direction in tango: Nuevo tango. The performance is staged in English and features poetry in Spanish, Russian and Romanian, as the Nuevo tango is an international phenomenon. Life in the Rhythm of Tango is, essentially, a drama performance with choreographic elements and vocals performed by actors of a dramatic theatre.
