Travel pass for public transport

Validating machines for e-tickets have been already popping up in some means of transport since the last year. By April 2018, Kyiv's public transportation system should be equipped to launch the new system. Citizens will be able to pay fare with the help of e-ticket, bank card with PayPass, phone apps or a NFC module. For a single ride, a ticket with a QR code will be available for purchase at the stop or inside the transport itself.

New bicycle tracks

A dream of many urban cyclists finally comes true in 2018: three new routes will be constructed this year. All three of them will lead to the downtown of the city and connect its parts: Solomenka district — downtown, Vynohradar — downtown and finally Obolon' — downtown. The city budget will spend UAH 50 million for this, so we might expect quality enhancement as well.
Cableway modernisation

Beloved by locals and tourists, the famous Kyiv cableway will be reconstructed. Firstly, wagons will be replaced for the new ones, sponsored by an Austrian company, to make the ride more comfortable. Another planned enhancement is a repair of the lower and upper platforms, as well as the cableway tracks. The works might start in summer 2018 and will take about a year.
Pedestrian bridge on the Saint Vladimir's hill

One more place for long strolls in summer, the new bridge is promised to be engineered by June 2018. It will have enough space both for pedestrians and cyclers, so don't forget your bike when you come to the big opening. "AIMM-Group" LLC, which also worked on constructing the new Zhovten cinema building, is leading the project.

Besarabsky Market reconstruction

Besarabsky Market, one of Khreshchatyk symbols, will be transformed in a whole new way…although we do not know how exactly. UAH 3,5 million has been allocated from the city budget to fund one of the four projects that have been presented at the Besarabsky Market reconstruction school in November 2017.
Kontraktova square transformation

The heart of Podil will change in 2018 as well. Expect a new transportation scheme, traffic lights at the pedestrian crossings, and a huge, by downtown size, parking lot for 1405 spots. The project also includes deconstruction of the inefficient road signs and advertisements, and eco-friendly gesture of planting 261 trees. Public transport stops will have street food kiosks installed nearby, and two historical gems, Kyiv-Mohyla Academy and Hostynnyi Dvir will be interconnected by a fountain.
Zoo reconstruction

City budget and patrons will spend UAH 250 million to give a new look to the Kyiv zoo. First to go is a reconstruction of the wetlands, primates' territory and the central entrance. Ticket stalls will be neighboring food courts, restrooms, first aid center, souvenir shop and information stall. All noisy rides will be taken down, and bars on the animals' cages will be replaced by fences of natural materials. New sightseeing platforms and routes are to appear in the zoo as well.

More parks and green spaces

2018 truly looks like a year of parks: activists in Obolon' district have already cleared a way for two, Dniprovskyi district will be a location for the new huge "Livoberezhna Embarkment" park. Cosy and secluded Kyoto park at Lisova metro station will be technologically advanced: CCTV and free Wi-Fi will be installed this year. Finally, 16 new public gardens will grace Kyiv.
Art residence in Expocenter of Ukraine

After being revived and renewed for the past two years, Expocenter continues its upgrade. The 13th pavilion will soon become a real art residence: artists, media figures, theatre, music, contemporary art performers, dancers and cinema stars will find a home here. Curious fact: in the times of Soviet Union, this building was dedicated to coal mining. Alexander Khalepa and Maxim Demsky, who organized ArkSquat at "GogolFest-2017" will lead the project.
Metro to Vynohradar

Last but not least, the thing waited for so long by Kyiv dwellers it became a running gag. UAH 5 billion will be spent to build two new stations – Mostytska and Prospekt Pravdy in Vynohradar district, which is now accessed mainly by trolleybuses and trams. Both stations are promised to be opened by the end 2019.
