Walking on Shota Rustaveli Street in Kiev

Shota Rustaveli Street lays in Pechersk district of Kiev, connecting the Bessarabka area the so-called ‘New Structure’, originated in the 1830s due to the flatness and a built-up area in the valley of Lybid River. Throughout its long history it was called Mala Vasylkivska (as it lays parallel to Velyka Vasylkivska), Borokhov street and, finally, in 1937 it was given its modern name in honor of Shota Rustaveli, medieval Georgian poet.

Shota Rustaveli is a very beautiful street, located in the heart of old city. It is great pleasure to walk along observing magical historical buildings constructed in the last third of XIX – beginning of XX century, mostly executed in neo-Renaissance and Art Nouveau styles.

Along Shota Rustaveli Street you will find lots of historic sights, monuments and places of interest such as the old ‘Kinopanorama’ cinema, the park with the monument dedicated to Shota Rustaveli, located on the crossing with Saksahanskoho Street, Cinema House and the famous Brodsky Synagogue. The Brodsky Choral Synagogue, built in the Romanesque Revival style resembling a classical basilica, is the largest synagogue in Kiev. The original tripartite facade with a large central avant-corps flanked by lower wings also echoed the characteristic design of some Moorish Revival synagogues, such as the Leopoldstädter Tempel in Vienna.

However, even with more places to have nice breakfast or lunch, Shota Rustaveli Street also offers many entertainment options with ‘Kinopanorama’ cinema, nice bars, stylish ShowroomS store and ‘Gulliver’ shopping mall just a bit away from the main road, closer to Palats Sportu metro station.
