Imagine skating hand-in-hand on a crisp winter night. A few stars may be visible above and the really breathtaking views of Christmas Lviv. The skating rink on Rynok Square in Lviv places you in a picture-perfect location with all the fairy lights, christmas carol tunes and winter holiday atmosphere all around. The rink traditionally opens in December and welcomes eager skaters till late February. The skating rink on Rynok square (just behind Ratusha City Council) is open daily from 10 AM till 10 PM. The rates for skating here vary from UAH 50 to UAH 70 per hour depending on the day of the week (it is more expensive on Friday night, Saturday and Sunday). Here you can also rent skates in case you don’t have your own. Children taking their first tentative steps onto the rink can learn the ropes on a series of skating lessons on weekends or booking private lessons with professional instructors.
Kids are welcomed, but this spot is definitely geared toward adults, especially in the evening when the rink feels more like a party.The ice is surrounded by countless bars and restaurants, carousels, a Christmas market and festive food stalls.
The skating rink Medyk (4, Gorbachevskyy street, Lviv) is another firm favorite with families in Lviv.
Medyk is one of the oldest recreational parks in Lviv housing a public pool and a natural pond. It is located in an upscale residential area of the city in the middle of the park. It has been established in the early 19th century and still remain Lviv’s most popular locations to spend hot summer days at as well as winter holiday season. The pond is turned into nice cozy skating rink each winter. While the service at Medyk might seem a bit rusty, it is one of the best options to ice skate in Lviv. There are many parties happening at Medyk during winter holidays with live DJ sets and lots of fun activities for the whole family. Great for novice skaters, the less-crowded Medyk Skating Rink offers classes with professional instructors and thinner crowds. The serene setting is a great place to learn how to skate.
The indoor skating rink at KingCross Leopolis shopping mall (30, Strujska street, Sokil’nyky) is regularly open 7 days a week all year round but gets exceptionally busy in winter. It’s the only one all-weather indoor rink in Lviv, which is very popular family holiday destination. Unlike most indoor ice arenas, this one doesn’t feel like a cave; bright surrounding of the shopping mall, many restaurants and bars provide numerous options for after-skating activities.
