Kyiv Weekend Events: April 21-22, 2018

The end of April is almost here, and weekend calls for adventures. After all, we did spend the whole winter tucked away in cozy apartments in front of laptops watching Netflix. It’s high time to explore what Kyiv has in store. To give a hint, numerous concerts of hip-hop and orchestras, festivals and jazz music with cocktails are awaiting.

Бумбокс / Boombox Concert

Probably the best-known band in Ukraine, Бумбокс will light up the Atlas club starting this Friday with their “Triple” concert. The band prepared a program featuring the best hits from their three legendary albums: Меломанія, Family Бізнес and III. Boombox will perform for two nights to leave the unforgettable memories and energy of their unique style: a fusion of rock, hip-hop, jazz and pop, all topped with captivating vocals of Andriy Khlyvnyuk.

Kurazh Bazar Jazz Only Edition

It’s quite easy to track the coming of spring with Kurazh Bazar festival comeback in Kyiv. According to the fest’s founders, the new event that will take place on a hot April weekend is going to be the first event of Kurazh Bazar dedicated solely to jazz culture. The traditional fest space Art-zavod Platforma will be filled with improvisations of jazz motifs from the best musicians, as well as the cocktail classics prepared on the specially-installed bar. The light atmosphere and cultural enrichment easily answer the eternal ‘where to go for a weekend in Kyiv’ question. The entrance is free for those celebrating their birthday and children under 12 years old.

CANactions Architecture Festival

This weekend the capital of Ukraine will host CANactions — the 11th International Architecture Festival that is going to unite world’s best architectural festivals on one platform for the first time in its history. The program of the festival will include lectures, discussions, workshops, exhibitions all aimed at to drawing public attention to the ideas from world’s practice of architecture and urbanism. One of the exhibitions in the framework of the festival is Schweizweit, opening on April 19 at Lavra Kyiv Municipal Gallery. The exhibition demonstrates architectural work in Switzerland, as well as the common features and differences of the problems that are relevant today for Swiss architects.

The Vsi. Svoyi festivals have become one of the go-to weekend spots for many locals. On April 21 — 22, visitors of the fest will have a chance to explore the Market of Ukrainian ceramics, where artists from all regions of Ukraine present their works. Besides, the festival will feature the Market of Svoyi Kimnaty — interior solutions and décor for a living room, bedroom, kitchen, children's room, bathroom, and study. The rooms located on three floors will be fully equipped with items of 150 Ukrainian brands of home goods.

Battle of Orchestras: NAONI vs. Odesa City Orchestra

The beloved show format of orchestra battle isn’t a first-timer in Ukraine. This Saturday, guests of the concert will witness a trial for the status of the best musicians between the Kyiv NAONI orchestra, famous for their collaboration with the Ukrainian electro musician ONUKA, and Odesa virtuosos Odesa City Orchestra. The contest is divided into three parts: first, the participants perform their own compositions, the second part features Ukrainian songs, and finally the contest is closed with the best world hits from rock to classical music.
When: April 21, 7 P.M.

Finally, due to the 8th Nova Poshta Kyiv Half Marathon that will take place this weekend, many streets in the center will have limited access for transport, including public transport and bicycles. The following streets will be closed on April 22:

Harbour Bridge Bridge towards the North Bridge - from 8 A.M. to 11 A.M.;
Harbour Bridge in the direction of Poshtova Square - from 8 A.M. to 12.40 P.M.;
Naberezhno-Rybalskain the direction of the Northern Bridge - - from 8 A.M. to 11 A.M.;
The Northern Bridge - from 9.20 A.M. to 11:00 A.M.;
Trukhanivska - from 9 A.M. to 12:00 P.M.;

Metro Bridge in the direction of Brovarsky Prospekt - from 8 A.M. to 11 A.M.;
