Photo: findinukraine.com.uaUkrainian cuisine has earned the love and respect of foreign guests. But gastro-knowledge of most foreigners are mainly limited to the restaurants of the big cities in the country. In fact gastro-tourism in Ukraine is a young but promising direction, which is worth of separate conversation. Destinations’ editor has met with Lala Tarapakina, the founder of "Znaydeno v Ukrayini" (Found in Ukraine) project, to talk about the "delicious" Ukraine.

The project aims to open uncharted Ukraine with its beauty, cultural heritage and gastronomic attractions. Expeditions of the project, led by Lala, visited the most remote corners of the country, as well as the places that are popular among tourists, to evaluate them personally.

Lala Tarapakina: Ukraine is a Klondike for gastro- and eno-tourism. You just need to know where to go. All places with gastro- prefix are divided into touristic ones and places with really delicious cuisine. There are a few of them that combine these two features in one. Western Ukraine is famous for its small farms with great cheese and meat.

For example, Dmitrovichi village near Lviv is a place where Belgian farmer Bernard Willem lives and works. On his farm, named after his daughter Eliza, there are goats, and incredible cheese is produced. Pate, ham, the famous jams and much more can be found on this farm, including tastings for tourists. You can taste everything for UAH 150. http://chevrette.com.ua/

There is one more place not for tourists, but for real gourmets. Orest delSol is a Frenchman, who came to Ukraine 20 years ago for the great love to Iolana, Ukrainian woman. They live in Nyzhne Selishte, Khust district of Transcarpathian region where they founded a kind of Provence. He has his own eco-farm, where they grow animals and produce tasty sausages, cheese and jams.

To continue the cheese theme we should also mention "Eco-Carpathians" farm. It is a small family business in the city of Dolina (Valley), Ivano-Frankivsk region. It is not about tourism, but about food. You can buy here perfect goat cheese like in Switzerland for no more than 300 hryvnia per kilo. In addition to cheese, the family grows sweet, beautiful, big blueberries and other berries and fruits.
