St Andrew’s Church

The grand church was designed by the Italian architect Bartolomeo Rastrelli and constructed during 1747–1754. St Andrew's church is considered to be one of the most beautiful Baroque buildings not only in Kyiv but also in Europe. Wealthy exterior typical for this style and bright colors make St Andrew's Church incredibly beautiful and magnificent. Interesting fact: it is the only church in Kyiv that has no bells.

Museums

The house #13 on Andriivskyi Descent is the museum of Mikhail Bulgakov. The famous Russian writer was born in Kyiv and lived here from 1906 till 1913. His monument located right next to the museum is a popular place for photoshoots. Another house-museum in Andriivskyi Descent is dedicated to Ivan Kavaleridze, the famous and extremely talented Ukrainian sculptor, director and playwright. You can find the exposition about his life and works in the house #21. At the bottom of the descent lies a unique One Street Museum - its exhibition is entirely dedicated to the history of Andriivskyi Descent.

Galleries

There is a reason why Andriyivsky Descent is called the Kyiv Montmartre: it has long served as a place where artists and sculptors created and hosted most popular exhibitions. Many renowned contemporary and classical art galleries are located here: for instance, Tryptykh, 36, Fortuna, Karas and Soviart.

Arts and Crafts Fair

The main exhibition gallery is Andriivskyi Descent itself: the street is full of paintings, sculptures, antiques, traditional Ukrainian embroideries and various souvenirs from street artists and vendors. They can be found from top to bottom of the street and are especially busy on weekends. 

Theaters

Andriivskyi Descent hosts two popular Kyiv theaters: Koleso ("The Whee") and the recently renovated Theater on the Podil. The latter is often visited by the capital's intelligence and has more over 50 plays in its repertoire. The theatre troupe is a 15-time nominee of Kyiv Pectoral, the most prestigious theatrical award in Ukraine. 

Interesting Features

A very interesting and mysterious building on Andriivskyi Descent is so-called Castle of Richard the Lionheart, named after the hero of Sir Walter Scott's novel. The second name of the house #15 - Ghost House - appeared because all owners of the building throughout centuries could not sleep because of the haunting and mysterious sounds. The monument of the characters of the popular movie "Chasing Two Hares", Svirid Petrovich and Prone Prokopovna, is another specialty of the street. Locals believe visiting the site brings luck in financial and love affairs.

Restaurants and Cafes

Nearby the Chasing Two Hares monument lies a restaurant with the same name where you can taste traditional Ukrainian and Old Slavic cuisine. Kanapa restaurant is another spot known for exquisite contemporary Ukrainian cuisine. While walking down the hill, you will also see many nice cafes and restaurants with French and European cuisine. Lviv Handmade Chocolate located on the bottom of the Descent is a popular spot for dates.
