We are pleased to present the new achievements of the "Junior Academy of Sciences of Ukraine" students. This unique educational system helps children realize their potential in various fields and achieve incredible results.
We have already written about the bright victories of young inventors - JAS students at international competitions. Now we will tell you about the new gold the children won at the "Olympiad of Geniuses" and three social projects by teenage girls that deserve special attention.
Three social projects by the agents of change
The "Agents of Change" school is a Junior Academy of Sciences project that helps Ukrainian teenagers make a difference by implementing socially important initiatives. Over the eight years of the project's existence, more than 650 school participants have enhanced their civic activism and implemented various ideas.
During the full-scale war, Ukrainian teenagers, with the help of mentors from the "Agents of Change," organize events to support the Armed Forces of Ukraine, arrange leisure activities for internally displaced Ukrainians, and promote Ukrainian culture abroad.
Among the participants are:
Veronika Sheldahaieva from Kherson. The girl created an online hub of volunteer tutors called "Tangle of Skills." Here, anyone interested can receive free educational assistance, and the volunteer tutors gain valuable teaching experience.
Kateryna Lysenko from Severodonetsk. While studying at the "Agents of Change" school, the girl organized a lecture on the history of our state in Ivano-Frankivsk. The event occurred on the 31st anniversary of Ukraine's independence, and the lecturer was Dr. Oleg Andrukhiv, a doctor of legal sciences.
Oleksandra Kotliar from Nova Kakhovka. The girl created a blog on Instagram called "Diary Of The Occupied." In it, she shares stories about life under occupation and ways to help the residents there.
"During a conversation with my mother and friends, thoughts were expressed that everyone had forgotten about Nova Kakhovka and that no one cared about us being under occupation," Oleksandra told JASmedia. "That's when I decided to become the person who would try to tell the whole world what is happening here.
While living under occupation, I became interested in design and enjoyed creating images for my posts. The problem was that the internet often disappeared. I had to catch Wi-Fi near hospitals and schools.
Once during a presentation at the 'Agents of Change,' I connected to the internet at home. I even JASaged to tell everything, but I lost connection on the last slide of the presentation. I knew that people would be worried about me, so I ran to a bench near the school, caught the internet signal, and concluded my speech with the words, 'I'm fine. Thank you for your attention.'

Ukrainian teenagers win at the "Genius Olympiad"
In June 2023, the final of the "Genius Olympiad" was held in the United States. It is the largest international competition of environmentally focused projects for teenagers. Here, students from grades 8 to 11 from all over the world create scientific, business, musical, literary, and artistic projects, produce short films and build robots.
This year, the largest offline delegation from Ukraine participated in the competition. 47 Junior Academy of Sciences students presented their projects at the competition and won 35 awards. We interviewed three gold medalists of the Olympiad about their winning eco-projects and ambitious plans.
Among the winners are:
Margaryta Perepelytsia learned which trees are worth planting in polluted regions and how decaying leaves can pollute the environment. For this, the girl researched the amount of heavy metals in fallen leaves in her hometown of Kryvyi Rih. With this work, she won the gold medal at the GENIUS Olympiad 2023 in the "Science" category.
Yevheniia Vinnitska wrote a short story called "The Cage" about how animals are treated at "wet" markets in China. These markets mainly sell fresh produce, but some offer exotic animals to buyers. Yevheniia won the gold medal at the GENIUS Olympiad 2023 in the "Creative Writing" category with her piece.
Yehor Shchasnyi, who, together with Oleh Zapara, created a robot that helps collect garbage and plant trees. With their invention, the boys won the gold medal at the GENIUS Olympiad 2023 in the "Robotics" category.
