Where to go from Zurich: beautiful bathhouse and nature reserve in Lachen, Schrecha Damb in Innerthal, hiking

Lachen

The route from Zurich to Innertal lies through the city of Lachen.

If you are traveling by public transport, you have to transfer here. Take advantage of the moment and stroll through the beautiful streets. This is a small, very cozy and quiet town with typical Swiss architecture, clean streets, and a picturesque promenade. In the center is the Old Town Hall of Lachen, built-in 1506. We advise you to start your acquaintance with the town from it.

After wandering around the beautiful streets, enjoying the leisurely life and architecture, go to the lake to plunge into one of the most beautiful baths on Lake Zurich. If you wish, there you can enjoy different types of water sports. There are many interesting offers.

But that is not all. One of the most beautiful places in Switzerland - is the nature reserve "Aahorn" in Lachen. You can get there by bicycle, bike, and foot. Well-organized routes are available for everyone.

Don't be lazy to climb up. Stunning panoramic views of the mountains and villages of Upper Lake Zurich are an experience that will stay with you for a lifetime.

You can also treat yourself to delicious food and drinks at one of the many restaurants located in this picturesque area.

If you return in the evening, be sure to stop to watch the sunset. Due to its unique location west of the lake, Lachen is known as "the city with the best sunset views on Lake Zurich".

To get from Lachen to Innertal, take a ticket to the Siebnen-Wangen station, change there to bus number 523, get off at the final stop, "Innertal Post" (Innerthal, Post). There you will have a fantastic view of the lake.

There is one attraction in the village that is worth your attention - the Shreha Dam (Staumauer Schräh). The Dam is one of the oldest power plants in Europe, over 100 years old.

As early as 1921, Nordostschweizerische Kraftwerke AG (NOK / today Axpo) and the Zurich City Electricity Company (EWZ) founded AG Kraftwerk Wägital. They planned to build the highest gravity dam and the largest power plant in Europe. The height of its wall is 111 meters. It rises 66 meters above the water's surface. In those times, it was a giant building. The power plant was not only to produce electricity but also to pump water in the Wagitalersee for storage and reuse. The four-year period of construction (1922 - 1926) was extremely short by the standards of that time.

Here you can read more about Shrech Dam

And here is even more about the power plant

Be sure to take a walk along the lake. In this place, the reservoir's water is of an unusually beautiful color, as well as many fishermen and stunningly beautiful mountains around. The paths around are paved, so you can move freely with a stroller, bike, or scooter.

Around the lake, there is a small village called Innerthal.

During the power plant construction, the people of Innertal had to give way to the lake. Houses, as often happens during the construction of such facilities, flooded. Those who didn't want to move moved into homes in the newly established lakeside village.

On this site, you will find more interesting information about the features of the power plant.

But the most interesting and exciting awaits you further. Walking, or rather hiking in the mountains. To the clouds and possibly above the clouds.

Such a stunningly beautiful route awaits you.

This route will take approximately 2.30 hours. The distance one way - is 8.69 km, maximum height is 1345 m

If you are not ready for this kind of activity, you have an excellent opportunity to just sit in a restaurant with an unforgettable lake view. Stop by the Gasthaus Stausee (Wägitalerstrasse, 8858 Innerthal, Switzerland, gasthaus-stausee.ch). You can have a wonderful time there, enjoying the taste of food and the beauty of the surrounding nature.

This is a small but full of impressions trip - an opportunity to get a lot of pleasure in a short time: the picturesque streets of Lachen, a wonderful swimming pool, walks along two lakes, the most beautiful sunset, and hiking above the clouds. An excellent choice for those who want to relax their body and soul, recharge emotionally and enjoy the beauty.
