The squat in Tereschenkivska street was founded in 2007. The two houses were occupied by 18 people who constantly lived here. Now, only the spacious second floor extension has been left with five people who created a courtyard café, which has become very popular among the locals. Earlier, the prevailed atmosphere of a special secret place dominated here, but not now. The founders decided to change the format from ‘squat’ and equip a café for guests to enjoy their hospitality and friendliness. In addition, Squat 17b yard cafe always hosts various events: house concerts, movie nights, parties, literature evenings, lectures and workshops.

Moving a bit away towards the Opera House, there is another cute place, hidden in the yards of Bohdana Khmelnytskoho street, - Okno (Window). However, it has seasonal working schedule: summertime only. Here you can play ping-pong, have a nice cup of coffee or a cocktail at one of minimalist tables outside. The place itself was inspired by open areas of New York, so the general look of Okno and its menu are very ‘loft’. Here you can find fast food Asian snacks, tasty summer smoothies and original cocktails from one the most famous bartenders in Kiev.
