Pyrohiv open-air museum
Masliana celebrations, dubbed as the Pancake Day, will be held on February 18 in the famous Pyrohiv open-air museum. Starting from 13:00, territory of the museum will become a battlefield for various competitions and entertainments with live music performed by local folklore bands. The culmination of the holiday is traditional burning of a scarecrow, which symbolizes ending of winter. Of course, any Masliana celebration isn't complete without treats: pancakes, varenyky and compote. If the weather graces Kyiv with snow, organizers of the event promise to arrange sledging. Nevertheless, even without the snow there will be plenty things to do: competitions on a log, tug-of-war and other folk games that will not only determine the strongest guest, but also work up an appetite. The entrance fee is UAH 40.

Feofaniya Park
Feofaniya park, located in the historical neighbourhood of Kyiv is another perfect place to spend Masliana. Here celebrations will be held on February 17—18 starting 12 A.M. The program includes entertainment for both children and adults, competitions and folk rides. Visitors will have a chance to try themselves at tug-of-war or fighting with sacks. Folk bands will entertain the crowd with live music and tricks. Celebration at Feofaniya preserved an important element of Shrovetide — dancing around the huge fire. Street cafes with traditional Ukrainian food like borsch, pancakes and varenyky will be opened all day near the stage. Entrance ticket is UAH 20.

Mamayeva Sloboda Park
Another way to spend Shrovetide in Kyiv is to visit the Cossacks celebrations in the preserved park of Ukrainian nature and architecture "Mamayeva Sloboda." The festival will last the whole weekend. The slogan "Ukrainian varenyky against Russian pancakes" has already become a tradition when celebrating the beginning of spring in Sloboda. However, the event organizers mentioned that pancakes will still be there. Besides, guests will have a unique opportunity to taste authentic Ukrainian drinks: musules - an analogue of European mulled wine, mead and various nalyvkas. Cossack version of Masliana also promises an entertainment of riding the huge swings and enjoying the local fair, where visitors can buy handmade souvenirs. The entrance fee is UAH 100.

Expocenter of Ukraine
The National Complex "Expocenter of Ukraine" regularly hosts various festivals, and Masliana celebrations in 2018 won't be an exception. Perfect occasion for a family weekend, the program here will include various competitions, entertainment program for kids, as well as photo zones for taking pictures. Naturally, any Masliana won't be complete without pancakes — for children organizers will prepare the bright ones of different colors, and for their parents pancakes with a variety of fillings: Bavarian sausages, cheese, fruit, red caviar, fish, vegetables and greens. Besides, "Nalyvka Fest" will allow visitors to try traditional Ukrainian beverage nalyvka, perfect for the occasion. The festivities will begin on Saturday, February 17, and will last the whole weekend. The entrance on the territory of Expocenter is free.

Spivoche Pole
The traditional folk celebration of Masliana will be held on February 17—18 on the territory of Pechersk Landscape Park. Here, guests will witness the rite of burning a straw woman, which symbolizes the end of winter's reign, a knightly tournament and spherical cinema. A variety of delicious colorful pancakes will be prepared on spot for the guests of the festival. Live music is traditionally provided by folk bands, as well as modern Ukrainian singers. Children will find plenty of entertainment spots: hills for tubing, a small zoo with animals to pet and play with, as well as handmade alley to look for the curious folk creations. The entrance fee on February 17 is UAH 50, on February 18 — UAH 70.
