Masliana 2018 Celebrations in Kyiv

Masliana, or Shrovetide, is one of the most spectacular and awaited holidays in Ukraine. The reason lies not only in a huge number of pancakes made and eaten during the week, or ethnic celebrations with lots of dancing and songs. Masliana is a holiday that historically welcomed spring to the Slavic lands. Let's see where celebrations are the most spectacular this year.

The culmination of the holiday is traditional burning of a scarecrow, which symbolizes ending of winter. Of course, any Masliana celebration isn't complete without treats: pancakes, varenyky and compote. If the weather graces Kyiv with snow, organizers of the event promise to arrange sledging. Nevertheless, even without the snow there will be plenty things to do: competitions on a log, tug-of-war and other folk games that will not only determine the strongest guest, but also work up an appetite.
