Photo: pinterest«Jazz on Dnipro» is a major music event that will be held in Dnipro (formerly «Dnipropetrovst») during the upcoming weekend. The headliner of the festival is a world famous trumpeter and Grammy award winner Randy Brecker.

Lviv is hosting the biggest jazz event of the year Alfa Jazz Fest every summer and attracts thousands of visitors and world famous musicians. Kiev, as a capital of Ukraine, is a number one option for artists to have their concerts. Dnipro, on the other hand, has been lagging behind on the jazz scene of Ukraine. But that will change now since the city is re-establishing the tradition of the annual jazz festival «Jazz on Dnipro».

«Jazz on Dnipro» is an open-air jazz festival that will be happening on three different locations throughout the city: Monastyrsky island, «Globa» park and “Menorah” cultural-business center. The organizers are expecting musicians from the US, France, Estonia, Sweden, Belorussia as well as over 10 thousand guests. The following guests-stars of the festival are already announced: Cyrus Chestnut, Paul Bollenback, Vincent Bourgeyx, Denise Pashkevich, rising start of New York Lincoln Center Michael Mwenso with his «The Shakes» band and many more.
The headliner of the «Jazz on Dnipro» festival is Randy Brecker. Jazz trumpeter and composer Randy Brecker has helped shape the sound of jazz, R&B and rock for more than four decades. His trumpet and flugelhorn performances have graced hundreds of albums by a wide range of artists from James Taylor, Bruce Springsteen and Parliament/Funkadelic to Frank Sinatra, Steely Dan, Jaco Pastorius and Frank Zappa.


Another world famous musician, who will be performing on «Jazz on Dnipro» festival is Rick Margitza, who has long been regarded as one of the «Young Lions» of the International jazz scene, and is nowadays one of the most respected musicians of contemporary jazz of his generation. Excellent tenor and soprano saxophonist, mostly inspired by John Coltrane, Michael Brecker and Wayne Shorter, he has managed to expand and develop his unique voice, highly poetic and sharply incisive.

While Eastern Ukraine’s jazz scene isn’t on a par with other Ukrainian cities yet, like Lviv or Kiev, «Jazz on Dnipro» festival can become a good tradition for spreading and popularizing jazz music in Dnipro and neighboring regions.
