‘Ribbons’ Exhibition by Ganna Kryvolap

Color silk ribbon has a special, sacral symbolism in Ukrainian folk culture. It is not only the traditional decoration for women's clothing, hair and holiday rituals, but also something more - a poetic character, which embraces a varied range of meanings and values. It symbolizes overlapping woman's love, charm and loyalty sending a heartfelt message that ties the lovers in separation.

‘Ribbons’ is the name of the newly created series of paintings by Kiev artist Hanna Kryvolap. The colorful ribbons fly over picturesque Ukrainian landscapes or are attached to the fence as a symbol of memory. The dynamics of thick bright lines on the paintings immediately catches the eye.

Hanna Kryvolap became quite well-known in the late 1990s, when she was still a student of the National Academy of Arts and Architecture. That was the time, when she began to exhibit her paintings in Ukraine and abroad, soon becaming the winner of the painting contest in Tahasari in Japan.
