Zaporizhzhia

Kam’yansʹka Sich, that is located on the territory of Respublikanets village of the Kherson region, was founded by the Cossacks of the legendary ataman Kostya Gordienko (a comrade-in-arms of hetman Ivan Mazepa) on the banks of the Dnipro in 1709.

Kam'yansʹka Sich National Nature Park: history and present days

Kam’yansʹka Sich was fortified with a rampart and moat; there was a church and kureni (houses) inside, there was a suburb with craft workshops and taverns. In 1711 by the order of Peter I Kam’yansʹka Sich was destroyed.
Today Kam’yansʹka Sich is a unique historical and archaeological landmark and one of few national parks in Ukraine which territory was not flooded or built up in 20th century. The structure of the future national natural park in Ukraine will include more than 12 hectares of land.
Ostap Semerak, Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of Ukraine, wrote on his Facebook page that the relevant draft of presidential decree on the formation of the Kam’yansʹka Sich National Nature Park was supported by government members on January 10, 2019. The document has yet to be signed by the President of Ukraine.

Today, the park has a unique array of virgin fescue-feather grass steppes with all the variety of plants and animals listed in the Red Book of Ukraine.
