Peizazhna Sculpture Alley in Kyiv

Peizazhna Sculpture Alley in Kyiv

Peizazhna or Landscape sculpture alley is one of the most unique and bright places in Kyiv. Creative benches and contemporary sculptures, marvelous wall decorations and playgrounds with fairy tale characters often impress locals and tourists. This interesting sight is located in the very heart of Ukrainian capital near the famous Andryiivsky Descent and the Museum of the History of Ukraine.

Peizazhna alley, also known as Landscape Alley is a park in Kyiv that stands on the site of the old hidden defensive walls of the city. The alley itself was created in 1980 by architect Abraham Miletsky as a part of a big project of a historical park, which was going to be called “Ancient Kyiv”. The park was planned as a large complex with lots of historical buildings, but unfortunately the project had never been carried out. Actually, Peizazhna alley is the only part of “Ancient Kyiv” project that has been brought into life. Here visitors can enjoy fascinating panoramic views of Podil district and Dnipro River from the same point where ancient Kyiv dwellers observed them in the times of Kievan Rus. This cozy square with its unique sculptures, fountains and benches surrounded by greenery made the alley popular in a very short time. Everybody wanted to see the bright mosaic benches in a shape of a hare, cat and crow, children's playground with characters from Alice in Wonderland characters, a fountain with colorful zebra heads, a fountain with a cute elephant and, of course, the Little Prince figure. Undoubtedly, the favorite spot among all locals and tourists is a huge 30-meter mosaic of a cat with many legs that sports a mysterious smile. People usually want to take a photo in a large mouth of this kitty. The idea of uncommon exposition came to designer Olga Kondratska and was brought into life by talented sculptor Konstantin Skretutsky, famous for many beautiful sculptures in Kyiv.Depositphotos 46919161 m 2015In May 2011, Peizazhna Sculpture Alley was extended by adding 17 art objects created in the framework of Kyiv Fashion Park project. It includes various art objects like funny benches in the shape of lips, eyes, swings and watermelon; a bench with pillow and blanket; beautiful sculptures such as The Rain Man, The Love River and The Rainbow. Art objects were created by well-known Ukrainian artists like Alexander Alexeev, Nazar Bilyk, designers Alexey Zalevsky, Andre Tan and many others. During its short existence, Peizazhna alley has already faced the threat of replacement by new buildings, which provoked a significant public response. In the end, the alley was saved and assigned a status of local natural monument.
