Kurazh Bazar
Kurazh Bazar was founded in 2014 as a charity thrift fair. The creators team wanted to start an initiative where people could sell vintage things, promote new brands and simply have fun. Nowadays, Kurazh Bazar is more than just a flea market - visitors meet young local designers, enjoy delicious food and drinks and watch live performances. The charity event already has a schedule for the next year.
Kurazh Bazar will take place at Expocenter of Ukraine in Kyiv and each event will revolve around various topics: Love, Jazz, Night Market Circus, American Independence, Rap, and Literature. The event schedule can be found at the official Facebook page of Kurazh Bazar.
Future Generation Art Prize 2019
Future Generation Art Prize is a biannual prize for young artists around the globe founded by Ukrainian philanthropist Victor Pinchuk. The patron artists of the festival include famous personalities of the art world like Damien Hirst, Jeff Koons and Takashi Murakami.
In 2019, the exhibition of works by the nominees will take place from February 9 until April in Kyiv's PinchukArtCentre. 21 nominees for Future Generation Art Prize 2019 will present their works to the Ukrainian public.
Yuna
The only professional national music award in Ukraine, Yuna, gives a chance to many emerging stars to rock the charts. For instance, this year Ukrainian band KAZKA entered the Top 10 World Hits chart by Shazam with their hit Plakala. Yuna award is also given to artists for notable achievements in the music industry.
Yuna Awards 2019 will take place on March 22 in the Palats Ukraina in Kyiv. The concert will gather all contestants for a massive live show. Numerous Ukrainian celebrities will also attend the event.
Molodist International Film Festival
Molodist International Film Festival is one of the most respected cinematography events in Europe. It was established way back in 1970 and since then has promoted young professional cinema. Molodist has seen the first steps of famous directors like Danny Boyle, Tom Tykwer and François Ozon. The competitive program traditionally represents movies of debutants from all over the globe as well as Ukrainian short movies.
Molodist International Film Festival will take place on May 25 - June 2, 2019 in Kyiv. In 2018 the festival was hosted in various unique locations from Trukhaniv Island to Poshtova Ploscha; and we are yet to see where the following year will take the viewers.
Book Arsenal
One of the largest literary events in Eastern Europe, Book Arsenal, was founded in 2011. The book fair was created to promote Ukrainian writers and books through international exchange. Throughout the years, Book Arsenal has brought numerous artists and philosophers from the US, Japan and European countries.
In 2019, IX International Book Arsenal will take place at Mystetskyi Arsenal in Kyiv on May 22-26. The focus of the festival is placed on the topic of co-existing - from next-door neighbors to international partnership.
Leopolis Jazz Fest
Leopolis Jazz Fest, previously known as Alfa Jazz Fest, is an international music festival annually held in Lviv from 2011. It was noted by The Guardian that included Leopolis Jazz Fest in the Top 10 jazz festivals in Europe. The event traditionally gathers legends of the genre like Dianne Reeves, Branford Marsalis and Arturo Sandoval.
In 2019, Leopolis Jazz Fest will take place on June 26-30. As usual, various locations in Lviv will host concerts of Ukrainian and international jazz artists.
Atlas Weekend
Atlas Weekend is among the most popular and well-known music festivals in Ukraine. British Gigwise magazine included it in the top rating of best music festivals of the world in 2018. Atlas Weekend was founded in 2015 to bring Ukrainian artists to the limelight. In time, it hosted concerts of famous bands like Apocalyptica, The Prodigy, Placebo as well as new emerging artists like Martin Garrix and John Newman.
The official Facebook page of the festival states the dates of Atlas Weekend 2019 - July 9-14. As usual, Atlas Weekend will take place in the Expocenter of Ukraine in Kyiv.
UPark
UPark festival is a newcomer among the pioneers like Koktebel Jazz Fest, yet it is loved by many Ukrainians. Throughout its existence, the festival brought numerous Grammy nominees to Kyiv - Red Hot Chili Peppers, Gorillaz, Muse, Hurts, Massive Attack, Kaleo and others.
According to the official Facebook page of the festival, in 2019 UPark will take place on July 16-18. The location will change from the stadium to a total summer spot - open-air Sky Family Park with a large pool, a pop-up market, bar and a clean beach. The line-up will feature Bring Me the Horizon, Nothing But Thieves, Thirty Seconds to Mars, Rag'n'Bone Man, The Prodigy and MØ.
Brave! Factory Festival
Brave! Factory is a festival of independent music and culture that was created by enthusiasts on the premises of a working manufactory. Its concept states that Brave! is for everyone from artist to factory worker. In 2018 the second festival gathered more than 50 musicians that performed experimental jazz and techno in Kyiv's industrial areas.
In 2019, Brave! Factory will take place on August 24-25 in Kyiv. The line-up so far includes a Detroit electronic band Model 500, a Danish electropop band When Saints Go Machine and Oskar Offermann & Edward. More details will be available on the official Facebook page of the festival.
The Revolution of Dignity Exhibitions
2018 marks 5 years since the Revolution of Dignity that took place in Kyiv and ultimately changed the political, historical and cultural course of the country. In 2014, volunteers and activists founded the Maidan Museum initiative to collect artifacts connected to the revolutionary events.
The Maidan Museum in Kyiv will host various cultural events starting November 2018 that will last until February 2019 to commemorate the 5th anniversary of the revolution. Visitors will have a chance to attend numerous photo and art exhibitions to witness the history and artifacts that tell how the story unfolded from day one.
