"Chernobyl" Series

Everyone in the world is aware of the Chernobyl accident - the most terrible man-made disaster in the history of mankind. But not everyone remembers the details and chronology of what happened. The series "Chernobyl" recreates this incident in detail, immerses into the atmosphere of this tragedy and allows you to look at it from the inside.

The "Chernobyl" series was filmed by the American television channel HBO in conjunction with the British television network Sky. The premiere took place recently – on 6th May. The film tells about a large-scale catastrophe in all details: its cause, beginning, development, liquidation, consequences, as well as interesting facts related to the Chernobyl tragedy.

In addition, this is an impressive story about the negligence and irresponsibility of the leadership of the USSR, on the one hand, and the heroism of the liquidators, who often had to go to certain death, on the other. As the filmmakers themselves said, Chernobyl showed the worst what a political system can be capable of, and the best what simple people are capable of.

Interestingly, a significant part of the Chernobyl series was filmed in Lithuania. The Ignalina nuclear power plant is very similar to Chernobyl one, and one of the districts of Vilnius is similar to Pripyat - the city that suffered the most and whose residents were evacuated. Soviet Moscow was recreated in Kaunas, Lithuania.
