November 2018 looks like an opera revival month thanks to the first in Ukraine Chamber Opera Festival and the grand Wagner Gala in Kyiv Opera House. Besides, the month will feature English-language plays and ballet performances that transcend any language.

Wagner. Gala


Galas at Kyiv Opera House have always been one of the main cultural events of any season. This year, the gala night is dedicated to the German Composer Richard Wagner, who shook the 19th-century Europe with new radical melodies. The program will feature pieces from The Flying Dutchman, Lohengrin, Tannhäuser, as well as the iconic Ride of the Valkyries.

Opera Weekend


The first in Ukraine chamber opera festival will take place in Mala Opera hidden on the streets of Lukianivka, which hasn't hosted an opera on its stage despite the name. The Opera Weekend will feature 4 pieces in different genres from the classic to romantic and modern-age. Moreover, the operas will become a real performance thanks to the collaboration with Ukrainian artists and fashion designers that added their touch to the festival.

The program features a comedy opera 'Rita' by Gaetano Donizetti, comedy 'Bear' by Irina Gubarenko, a dramatic opera The Medium by Gian Carlo Menotti and a singspiel Bastien und Bastienne by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

Burning Doors


Belarus Free Theatre presents Burning Doors - a play drawn from the real-life stories of Russian performance artist Petr Pavlensky, incarcerated Ukrainian filmmaker Oleg Sentsov and Pussy Riot's Maria Alyokhina. Burning Doors explores political repression and stands up for the universal artistic freedom. The play was called 'A scorching piece of theatre: uncompromising, urgent and angry.' by The Financial Times and featured by The Guardian, Time Out, and British Theatre Guide.

While theaters in Kyiv are working to incorporate more English-language plays in the repertoire, TheatreHD provides the exciting cultural experience by showing live screenings of various British plays featuring leading contemporary actors.

The play tells the story of Mark Rothko, played by Alfred Molina and his young assistant Ken played by Alfred Enoch best known for his role in How to Get Away with Murder. Together, they discuss classical and modern art, talk about meaning and vocation while Rothko faces a challenge: painting a series of murals for the luxurious Four Seasons restaurant.

Raymonda


This November, the stage of Kyiv Opera House will be graced by world-famous stars of ballet performing Raymonda by Alexander Glazunov. The Honored Artist of Ukraine Natalia Matsak will play Raymonda, a young countess wrapped in a love triangle.

The three acts of the play will tell the story of her struggle to stay true to her love, Jean de Brienne, played by Honored Artist of Ukraine Serhii Kryvokon. A Principal dancer at Munich Ballet, Erik Murzagaliev, will play his rival - passionate Abderakhman.

El Puerto Flamenco


Those who are tired of the chilly weather have a chance to warm up with the rhythms of flamenco. A Kyiv-based band El Puerto Flamenco will collaborate with the special guests from Málaga, Spain - guitarist Fransisco Martinez Serdan and dancer Maya Yaremenko. Together, they will lead the audience to the world of the passionate Spanish motions and melodies.

Kyiv Modern Ballet. Bolero. Rain


The one-act ballet performances that will take place on Kyiv Opera and Ballet Theatre for Youth are the result of grueling work by Kyiv Modern Ballet director Radu Poklitaru and his ballet company. Together they successfully performed in Spain, France, the Netherlands, South Korea, China and many other countries.

This time, the audience will witness the iconic Boléro by Maurice Ravel wrapped in the language of dance. The second ballet on the program is called Rain, a creative philosophical symbiosis of ethnic music and pieces by Johann Christian Bach.
