The beginning of 2019 looks optimistic in the heart of western Ukraine: more trains and flights to Europe, as well as the first news about the iconic jazz festival.

Jam Factory: a new art space in Lviv

Lviv City Administration approved the creation of Jam Factory art space, reports Zaxid.net. The project is led by the Austrian company Harald Binder Cultural Enterprises that bought the former Jam Factory in Pidzamche way back in 2015. The owners want to turn an early 20th-century building on 124, Khmelnytskoho Street into a multimedia art center. The owners plan to showcase contemporary art, introduce visitors to theatre, music, cinema and organize workshops. The art center is to be opened in 2020.

A new restaurant without menu and prices

Pretty High Kitchen chefs teamPretty High Kitchen (“Дуже Висока Кухня”) is a new restaurant opened in Lviv in late 2018. The fine dining spot is unique in Ukraine, as it doesn't have an established menu, price list and waiters. Instead, visitors can simply order the dishes they enjoy, consult with the chef to create an individual dish or trust the chef's choice based on their preferences. Pretty High Kitchen plans to invite well-known chefs to Lviv to take part in the restaurant's life. The venue is located on 14, Rynok Square.

Dogs Like Ducks among the best world vegan restaurants

Dogs Like Ducks vegan hot dogsThe popular service of finding vegan venues HappyCow published a list of the top-rated world vegan restaurants by HappyCow members. As mentioned on the website, all the places are 100% pure vegan restaurants that have at least seven or more positive reviews.

Dogs Like Ducks cafe in Lviv is the only venue from Ukraine. It occupies the 37th rank on the list. The cafe is located on 17, Valova Street not far from the Bernadine Church and Monastery. Dogs Like Ducks offer 100% vegan hot dogs with seitan sausage, tofu, bell peppers and other fresh and healthy ingredients. Visitors also can pick a regular or yeast-free bun.

Lviv-Przemyśl train

Intercity trainLviv now has one more train that connects the city with Poland. On December 20, 2018, Ukrzaliznytsia launched № 90/89 Lviv-Przemyśl train. According to the information on the official Ukrzaliznytsia website, the train departs from Przemyśl at 10:15 A.M. and arrives in Lviv at 1:45 P.M. As for the opposite direction, it departs from Lviv at 4 P.M. and arrives in Przemyśl at 5:46 P.M.

The estimated time of the trip is 2.5 hours. The train consists of 6 compartment carriages with the 2nd class seats. The ticket price is approximately UAH 253. Tickets can be purchased at the railway ticket offices. The train will appear on the schedule during the high holiday season throughout the year, e.g. on March 8-10, May 11 - June 30, July 6 - September 1 etc. You can check the available dates at uz.gov.ua.

New flights to Prague from Lviv

Airplane in the skyUkrainian low-cost airlines SkyUp yet again announced new flights from Ukraine to European cities. In December 2018, the State Aviation Administration of Ukraine approved six routes from various cities of Ukraine to the Czech Republic, Israel and Montenegro. The flight Lviv - Prague is planned to appear on the schedule 3 times a week. The exact dates of the flight launch are yet to be announced.

The first headliner of Leopolis Jazz Fest 2019


One of the most iconic jazz festivals in Ukraine, Leopolis Jazz Fest, announced its first headliner for the 2019 festival. It is a pianist and composer, 22-time Grammy award winner Chick Corea with My Spanish Heart Band project. The concert will be held on June 29, 2019. According to the festival organizers, the concert program is a tribute to the love of Spanish and Latin American music.
