"Ostroh Academy" National University

Ostroh Slavic-Greek-Latin school, established in 1576 by Konstantin Ostrozhsky, the Lithuanian Prince, was actually the first higher educational institution in Eastern Europe. The school, which had its own typography, was built based on the principles of European education centers of that time. The program of Ostroh school included studying five languages: Church Slavonic, Polish, Greek, Latin and Hebrew. After Society of Jesus had settled in the institution in 1624, the school went into decline and was closed in 1636. In January 1993, the government had decided to revive the school, and renewed Academy opened its doors for students in 1994. Nowadays, "Ostroh Academy" National University offers five faculties and Institute of Law.

National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy

National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy is one of the oldest higher schools in Europe. This educational institution was founded in 1615 as Kyiv Brotherhood School. In 1632, it merged with Kyiv Pechersk Lavra and was named after Kyiv Metropolitan Petro Mohyla. In 1658, the school became the first Orthodox educational institution in Eastern Europe that was assigned a status of Academy. In 1817, the Academy was closed based on decision of government. During Soviet era, the building of Academy served as a residence of navy school. In 1992, the Academy was re-opened as National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy, and nowadays it is one of the most prestigious institutions of higher education in Ukraine. It includes six faculties and Kyiv-Mohyla business school.

Ivan Franko National University of Lviv

Ivan Franko National University of Lviv, one of the oldest universities of Eastern Europe, was established in 1661. Previously it was named after King John Casimir of Poland. The main building of the university, that served as a residence of Galicia Seim, was built in the end of XIX century, keeping to historicism style. This building is notable for its impressive architecture and sculptures. At the entrance, students can see monuments symbolizing Education and Labor, and building facade is decorated with sculptures embodying Love, Justice and Faith. The educational institution includes 112 departments, 19 faculties and 3 colleges. Ivan Franko National University of Lviv has a status of national monument of Ukraine.

Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv

This university had been established in 1833 as Saint Vladimir Royal University of Kyiv, and then it changed its name many times in the course of history. Currently, Taras Shevchenko National University is a classic research-based institution and leading scientific and educational center of Ukraine. The university includes 13 faculties, 8 educational institutes, Ukrainian Studies center, geological and zoological museums, museum of University History, Linguistics museum, information and computation center, astronomic observatory, publishing office and scientific library. In the world rate of higher educational institutions, Taras Shevchenko National University is on the highest position among all Ukrainian universities.

Yurii Fedkovych Chernivtsi National University

Before this gorgeous building became an educational institution, it had been used as a residence of Bukovina and Dalmatia Metropolitans. The construction began in 1864 and lasted for almost twenty years. The result was worth the efforts: eclectic architectural ensemble, decorated with marble, crystal and gold, boggles your imagination. Seminary-based university opened its doors in 1875 and included three faculties: Divinity, Law and Philosophy. When a part of Ukraine was a member of Austro-Hungarian Empire, all lectures in the university were given in German language. In 2011, UNESCO included the main building of Yurii Fedkovych Chernivtsi National University in the list of World Cultural Heritage. Nowadays, the university consists of 11 faculties and 2 institutes.

"Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute" National Technical University of Ukraine

National Technical University of Ukraine "Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute", founded in 1898, is one of the largest Ukrainian educational centers. Its 160-hectares territory provides opportunities for studying, sports and leisure. Since the foundation of Kyiv Polytechnic Institute, more than 230 000 engineers graduated from that higher school. "Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute" National Technical University of Ukraine consists of 18 faculties, 7 scientific and educational institutes (including military one), joint machine engineering faculty, branch in Slavutich town and constructional bureau. The buildings of Institute campus are notable for sophisticated architectural solutions. Some of them are even assigned a status of architectural monument.
